In 2017, the Ministry of Education released the ELL Standards. Many Metro Vancouver school districts, along with the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University, saw an opportunity to use the learning of the ELL Standards as a vehicle to dive deeper into the inquiry of assessment pedagogies for English language acquisition. What unfolded became a research journey that looked at teacher collaboration, language and literacy, current educational structures, and the application of the equity lens to language assessments for students Kindergarten to grade 12.
